Our Preschool Program (including a Toddler component) is designed for children 2-6 years of age. The children are divided into 2 groups for focused activities and lunch time and interact together during morning and afternoon snacks, short time during outdoor time and naptime.

Toddlers (ages 2-3) Dragonfly Class

Toddler Program: Our toddler program is for children between the ages of 2 and 3 years old. The children will be provided with structure and routine based on a daily schedule which includes group time, Montessori and STEM activities, social time, music & movement, arts & crafts, language, Spanish, and rest time. In this program we work on establishing a potty routine and when the child and family are ready, we start potty training. In order to move into the Preschool program, the child needs to be completely potty trained and familiar with the material and routine.

When the child and the family are ready we support potty training. Until then we will work together and give ample resources to the parents.

Older Preschool (ages 3-6) Butterfly Class

Preschool Program: Our preschool program is for children aged 3 to 6 years old. The children will be provided with structure and routine based on the daily schedule which includes group time, Montessori and STEM activities, social time, music & movement, arts & crafts, language, and rest time. The curriculum and activities provided in this program are designed to build the skills and independence necessary for success in school and in life, while encouraging the development of self-discovery and fostering habits of self-directed learning through choice.

There are age appropriate activities incorporated into kindergarten readiness. Here are some of the readiness skills we believe are important.

• Recognizing similarities and differences.
• Recognizing quantity of numbers 1-100 and identifying numeric symbols.
• Learning how to use words to express feelings, and ask for help when needed.
• Beginning writing and letter recognition.
• Cooking and measurement.
• Following a sequence of directions.
• Enhance skills for autonomy through practical life (i.e. serving own water/snack, cleaning and care of the environment)
• Exploration of the five senses.

Hours of Operation: Preschool Program: M-F 7:30 to 5:30. Schedule options:

• Extended Days: 7:30 am to 5:30 pm
• Full Days: 8:30 am to 3:00 pm
• Half Days: Toddlers 8am to 12pm or 12pm to 4pm; Preschool 8:30am to 12:30pm or 12:30pm to 4:30pm

Steps to Learning Montessori School has large classrooms and a large playground, flexible schedules and many activities available for the preschoolers.
